EXHIBITS

We have compiled a variety of exhibits consisting of explanatory text, books, photographs, and one-of-a-kind high quality crafts from different regions of the world of Islam.  These exhibits are compact, stunningly beautiful and informative, focusing on the human and spiritual aspects of Islam.  The exhibits that we have displayed in public libraries, universities and schools have been well-received and generated a great deal of interest.  The following are some examples:

The Turkish Weaving Tradition

What all traditional people in the world share in common is a perception that pattern is the basis of existence.  That pattern is witnessed throughout the life cycles of men and women, in the seasons marking time coming and going, and all the glorious and intricate forms of nature.  Traditional people interpret and express those patterns in their arts and crafts, transforming the utilitarian into the decorative.

In the heartland of Turkey, known as Anatolia, centuries of history have passed where countless tribes have migrated, fought and settled.  This cultural fusion has resulted in an incredibly rich expression of regional designs reflected in weaving patterns.

Calligraphy from the World of Islam

Calligraphy is considered to be the noblest art of Islam because it gives visible form to the revealed word of the Qur'an.  It is the art most widely shared by Muslims around the world.  Responding to the nature and context of each phrase, styles have developed at different periods of history.  Until this day, not a single style had fallen into disuse.  In contrast to the pictographic calligraphic arts of the Far East, the artistic expression of the Arabic script is entirely abstract.  In this aspect, calligraphy from the world of Islam has no rival or equal.  Some believers interpret the movement of the language from right to left as a progression towards the heart.
